Bob Michalski is the fourth of six children and began playing clarinet at the age of nine. His Dad was a music lover and bought Bob a silver clarinet for fifty bucks in 1969. This was a huge investment with all those kids to feed! Many weekends, his Dad would entertain friends in their home in Buffalo New York. Often times after midnight, Bob would be hauled out of bed to play “When The Saints Go Marching In” along with Pete Fountain and the reel to reel tape deck. After that it was off to bed (again).
Bob stumbled across an alto saxophone at a friend’s house during his high school years. As soon as he played it he was hooked! In his junior year, he agreed to play the baritone saxophone at Springville High School in the jazz band. High school is where he began to sense his musical identity. Ever since high school, music has played a major role in his life.
Bob tagged along with his Mom and Dad when they decided to move to sunny South Carolina in 1978. They had seen enough of that New York snow for one lifetime!
Bob’s day job is as an irrigation specialist. In his spare time, he looks for opportunities to play his music around the state for weddings and corporate parties. Bob is also an active member of The Sensational Epics, a 10 piece very popular high energy beach, variety band. Bob is one of 6 horn players in this band. He’s also very involved with his church and plays saxophone on the worship team. He also enjoys volunteering and playing his music at hospitals and nursing homes.
His motto is “If not me, then who?”
