I played in the big house. . .finally at First Baptist Columbia

By Bob Michalski

Jean Bridges is a dear friend of mine.  We met at another luncheon.   I’ve seen Jean at many of my luncheons and she still laughs at my jokes.  How sweet.  Now she knows what my family and friends have to endure on a daily basis.  Thanks to Jean for being my friend.

Another dear friend of mine is the one and only Barbara Porter.  Barbara taught me sign language.  I still have a long way to go but it’s worth it.  The greater Columbia area is so blessed to have this woman of God in the midst of our community.  She has helped the deaf beyond measure.  She has helped hearing folks as well.  My life has taken on a whole new dimension because I’m able to communicate with the deaf.  Thank you Barbara!  I love you.

I’ll be honest.  It was difficult to get to the luncheon today.  I’m smack dab in the middle of CNA school but everyone involved made it happen.  I made it to the church just in time. Oasis is the name of this Seniors’ group.  I love it.  Oasis – a fertile tract in the desert, a shelter serving as a place of sanctuary.  That sums it up.  All the stress of the week left as I entered the room at First Baptist Church.  I arrived at the oasis.  The presence of the Lord was there.  We had fun.  We cried.  We shared.  It may very well be what heaven is like.  I hope so.

I look forward to going back to First Baptist to receive another dose of heaven.  Thank you Oasis folks.  I appreciate your friendship and enthusiasm.
